Nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards in 2014, Selma is the story of how Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. led a three-month march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama in 1965, fighting for equal voting rights for all Black Americans.
Can’t make it to the live event? We’ll have more Selma events scheduled throughout the month. You are also able to rent Selma on-demand at any time at https://bigscreenvr.com/movies/catalog for $3.99 in the US/$4.99 in Canada.
Night Catches Us
When ex-Black Panther Marcus (Anthony Mackie) returns to Philadelphia for the funeral of his father, he knows it’s not going to be an easy visit. Many of his old radical friends, including “DoRight” Miller (Jamie Hector), still believe that Marcus was responsible for the death of a Panther leader right before he took off. While trying to convince everyone he’s not a snitch, Marcus rekindles his relationship with Patricia (Kerry Washington), the widow of the slain leader.
The Long Walk Home
Odessa Carter (Whoopi Goldberg) needs to get to work as a nanny in the home of the affluent Miriam Thompson (Sissy Spacek), but she refuses to take the bus. Odessa is participating in the Montgomery bus boycott, protesting against the inequality between blacks and whites, so Miriam decides to offer Odessa a ride to work every day. Though the community and Miriam’s husband (Dwight Schultz) insist she not get involved, the relationship between Miriam and Odessa has already changed for the better.
The Pruitt-Igoe Myth
The Pruitt-Igoe Myth is a 2011 documentary film detailing the history of the Pruitt–Igoe public housing complex in St. Louis, Missouri, and the eventual decision to raze the entire complex in 1976.
